“What about our playground—what’s the plan?”
We hear this question more than any other, and it comes from a place we all share: love for our kids and the memories they build outside the classroom. The reality is that school playgrounds don’t arrive through a single budget line, but rather are created through a careful mix of fundraising, grants, and community donations. Since COVID, our PTO has had to operate on a break-even model just to maintain the programs our students already rely on.
Grants are not an easy solution. We compete with much larger schools and districts that qualify as economically disadvantaged, which often places them ahead of us for outside funding. That means improvements to our playground and outdoor spaces depend largely on us, the families, teachers, and neighbors who believe our children deserve a safe, joyful place to play and grow.
The Locust Grove Elementary PTO is committed to changing this story. Over the next few years, we will begin setting aside dedicated funds for meaningful outdoor improvements. But good intentions alone won’t build a single swing set. More volunteers mean bigger fundraisers, stronger events, new sponsors, and the people power to pursue grants, advocate at school board meetings, and champion every child at our school.

Volunteer Your Time
Help at events, assist in Jr. Achievement, volunteer for lunch, or chaperone field trips. Even an hour makes a difference!
Show Up and Cheer On
Attend performances, game nights, and other school events to support the kids and staff.
Donate Supplies or Gently Used Items
Recycle items like books, craft materials, or event decorations.
